Wildwood Grove Dollywood

Wildwood Grove at Dollywood: Family Rides, Play Areas & Smoky Mountain Adventure

For families visiting Dollywood with children of different ages, Wildwood Grove Dollywood is one of the park’s most useful areas to build a day around. Themed around a magical Smoky Mountain forest, the area combines family rides, kid-friendly play spaces, water play, dining, and larger attractions for older children and adults.

It is particularly helpful for multi-generational groups because younger children can enjoy gentler attractions while older kids and adults have options with a little more speed and excitement.

About Wildwood Grove Dollywood

Wildwood Grove is a themed area within Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, designed around a colorful Smoky Mountain woodland setting. The area centers around the enormous Wildwood Tree and includes attractions ranging from gentle children’s rides to family coasters.

The current attraction lineup includes Big Bear Mountain, Dollywood’s longest roller coaster, along with Dragonflier, Black Bear Trail, Frogs & Fireflies, The Mad Mockingbird, Treetop Tower, and Great Tree Swing.

For younger children, Hidden Hollow provides an interactive play area with climbing structures, slides, tree-themed obstacles, and a separate toddler area. Wildwood Creek adds another opportunity for children to splash and play around shallow water features.

Wildwood Grove also has food options including Sweets and Treats and Till & Harvest Food Hall, making it possible to spend a substantial portion of the day in the area without constantly moving across the park.

Why Guests Love It

There is something for different ages
Wildwood Grove makes it easier for families with toddlers, school-age children, and older kids to stay in the same general area while choosing attractions appropriate for their ages.

Great for younger children
Hidden Hollow is specifically designed with young children in mind, including a separate toddler area. The nearby Wildwood Creek provides another low-key place for little ones to explore and cool off.

Older kids still have plenty to do
Big Bear Mountain and Dragonflier give older children and adults more adventurous options, while rides such as Black Bear Trail and Treetop Tower offer gentler alternatives.

The setting feels different from a traditional ride area
The Wildwood Tree, wooded scenery, creek, bridges, and nature-inspired details create a cohesive environment rather than simply placing rides side by side.

Easy to make into a family base
With attractions, play areas, food, and places to rest nearby, families can spend a good portion of their Dollywood visit in Wildwood Grove without constantly crossing the park.

Insider Tips

  • Check the height requirements before promising children specific rides. Requirements vary considerably throughout Wildwood Grove.
  • Dollywood’s Ride Measuring Center near the entrance can give children a color-coded wristband showing which rides they are tall enough to experience.
  • For toddlers and preschoolers, allow time for Hidden Hollow rather than treating it as something to squeeze in between rides.
  • Bring a change of clothes or a small towel for young children if you plan to spend time around Wildwood Creek and its water-play features.
  • Big Bear Mountain requires riders to be at least 39 inches tall, while Dragonflier has a minimum height of 39 inches and additional rider requirements.
  • Some outdoor rides can close because of lightning, high winds, extreme temperatures, or other weather conditions, so keep some flexibility in your Dollywood schedule.
  • Plan food breaks rather than waiting until everyone is hungry. Wildwood Grove has its own dining options that can make this easier.
  • If your group includes grandparents or guests who do not want to ride, the area has plenty of scenery and places to pause while other family members take turns on attractions.

Stay Hello Sunshine Tip

For families staying at Sunshine Around the Bend, Wildwood Grove is a natural choice for a full Dollywood day, especially when your group includes children at different stages.

Let the younger kids explore Hidden Hollow and Wildwood Creek while older kids and adults take on the bigger rides. When everyone is ready for a quieter evening, head back to the cabin and let the day wind down around the hot tub, private fire table, or Dolly Parton-themed game room.
