Grist Mill & Cinnamon Bread is one of Dollywood’s signature food and craft experiences, located in Craftsman’s Valley inside the theme park. The working grist mill was built in 1982 and recreates the traditional mills once used in the Smoky Mountains to grind corn and wheat. Today, it is best known for its cinnamon bread, which is baked fresh daily.
For guests staying at Sunshine Around the Bend, this is one of those stops worth knowing about before a Dollywood day. The cinnamon bread is easy to share, and the mill itself adds a little Appalachian craftsmanship to what could otherwise be a simple snack stop.
Dollywood’s Grist Mill was built in 1982 as the first fully operational grist mill constructed in Tennessee in more than a century. It was designed to resemble the mills that historically served communities in the Smoky Mountains, including the large water wheel used to power the grinding process.
Today, the Grist Mill combines that historic craft experience with one of Dollywood’s best-known food offerings: freshly made cinnamon bread. Dollywood says the bread is prepared fresh daily, and guests can enjoy it with either vanilla buttercream icing or Dollywood’s apple butter.
The menu is intentionally simple. Along with cinnamon bread, the Grist Mill offers drinks and a selection of spreads and preserves, including apple butter, peach butter, rhubarb preserves, and assorted syrups.
Plan it into your Dollywood route. The Grist Mill is located in Craftsman’s Valley, so check the park map and work it into your route rather than crossing the park specifically for the bread.
Go earlier if cinnamon bread is a priority. Dollywood states that the bread is baked fresh daily in limited quantities, so availability is not guaranteed if supplies run out.
Choose your topping. The current offering includes a choice of vanilla icing or apple butter. For a group, ordering both can make it easy to let everyone decide which they prefer.
Don’t confuse it with Spotlight Bakery. Spotlight Bakery is another Dollywood food location, while the Grist Mill is a separate stop in Craftsman’s Valley. The Grist Mill is the location specifically associated with the fresh-baked cinnamon bread experience.
Remember that it is inside Dollywood. Guests need to be visiting the theme park to access the Grist Mill. Dollywood’s operating calendar can vary by date, so check the park schedule when planning your visit.
For guests at Sunshine Around the Bend, Grist Mill & Cinnamon Bread is an easy little tradition to add to a Dollywood day. Pick up a fresh loaf to share, enjoy it while exploring Craftsman’s Valley, and if there’s any left, bring it back to the cabin for everyone to enjoy around the gourmet kitchen and dining area.
